Greg Powell is a retired primary school teacher who lives with his wife Brenda at Valentine on Lake Macquarie near Newcastle, New South Wales. They have four adult sons, Benjamin, Adam, Lachlan and Hamish, who each have wives or partners: Rebecca, Nick, Stephanie and Candice.
Greg likes to combine his interests in bushwalking and history by exploring historical and scenic regions on foot. He also enjoys writing and creates freelance articles for many outdoor and travel magazines. Regular articles on bushwalking appear in Hunter and Coastal Lifestyle Magazine and he writes a regular bushranger article for Central West Lifestyle Magazine (NSW). He is the author of bushwalking books on the Snowy Mountains, Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley as well as five previous bushranger country books.
Since Bushranger Tracks: Across New South Wales and Victoria was published in 2016, Greg has been in demand for guest speaking engagements on his favourite topic.
Greg was a founding member of Hunter Bushrangers (formerly Rovent Historical Re-enactments), a living history group formed in 1969 within the Scout Association. The group performed at public events all over the state until 2009.
